Welcome students and parents!
My name is Mr. Alvin Dotson and I am pleased to be in my third year as your Orff Music Specialist at Raleigh-Bartlett Meadows Elementary! I truly enjoy not only music itself, but teaching its principles and elements to school-age children as well. Music has been a true passion my entire life and nothing brings me greater joy than to share this passion of music with others!
This year we will continue our growth process in musical knowledge and to refine and diversify our school performances in grades PreK-5 so that ALL children at our school can experience the wonderful opportunities that music brings to each and every child: better social skills and discipline by performing in an ensemble, increased creativity with improvisation and original compositions, higher order thinking to analyze and discuss all genres of music and be able to connect its importance to every day living and interacting with human beings from all across the globe through multicultural music. If you haven't heard by now, scientific data has proven that students who take music classes and perform have scored much higher on standardized tests than non-music students, it offers them a creative outlet that may otherwise be non-existent, and is just plain fun! Orff music is very interactive so the students are actively engaged during the learning process which they truly enjoy! "Viva la musica!"
